Sciatica Treatment

Sciatica Treatment in Algonquin, Illinois

The time will come in many people's life when they experience an episode of sciatica (shooting pain from the low back or buttock down the legs).

It is at this time that they start to ask people around them for recommendations for a doctor that specializes in sciatica treatment, or even do an online search for "sciatica pain doctor near Algonquin Illinois".

For Algonquin, Crystal Lake, Elgin, Huntley, Barrington, and several surrounding communities, Dr. Chris Faubel is available to help.

Sciatica is a general term used by people to refer to pain shooting down the leg.  This symptom is almost always caused by either a herniated disc in the low back (lumbar spine) pinching a nerve, or an actual pinching of the sciatic nerve as it passes through the piriformis muscle in the buttock.

The sciatic nerve is a large nerve that is formed from the coming together of several other nerves that exit from each side of the low back (lumbar spine).  All these individual nerve form the sciatic nerve in the buttock region.

In some people, their sciatic nerve passes right through a muscle called the piriformis muscle.  This piriformis muscle can be tight or spasming in some patients and this will cause buttock pain only.  If you're one of the people born with the sciatic nerve piercing right through the muscle, a tight or spasming piriformis muscle can then cause pain that shoots from the buttock down the leg.

Dr. Faubel is a sciatica specialist.  He is a medical doctor that specialized for four (4) years after medical school, doing his residency training as a Physiatrist.  Physiatrists (Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation) are experts in the diagnosis and treatment of non-surgical musculoskeletal conditions.  He then spent another year sub-specializing in non-surgical interventional pain management.  Dr. Faubel is now board certified in both Physiatry and Interventional Pain Management.

Seeking advice and help from a doctor that specializes in sciatica treatment is very important.   Just like there are physicians that specialize in diabetes or eyes or pregnancy, there are those that specialize in the spine and sciatica.

What is great about Dr. Faubel is that he uses non-surgical means to treat your sciatica, but at the same time, he doesn't hesitate to refer patients for surgical consultations, physical therapy or chiropractic care when appropriate.

Only after taking a complete history and focused but thorough physical examination can a Spine specialist determine which of the treatments for sciatica is best for you.

Come see Dr. Chris Faubel at the OrthoIllinois Spine Center and take that first step to getting your life back again.
